As President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's approval plummets in Iran, his opposition is barred from running in the upcoming parliamentary elections held on March 14, 2008.
Candidates are vetted by the interior ministry before they are allowed to stand for election to the parliamentary. Out of the 7,000 hopeful candidates, nearly 3,000 have been disqualified.
The government has overturned some of the disqualifications, nearly 800 to date. Many of the disqualified candidates are promising reform and are hopeful of being elected amid the president's low approval.
