Sudanese Ambassador Defends his President

Fareed Zakaria speaks to Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem Mohamad, the Sudan Ambassador to the United Nations, about his potential complicity in genocide and other war crimes committed by the Sudanese government during a heated interview.

The International Criminal Court filed charges for the first time against a sitting head of state when the chief prosecutor filed genocide charges against Sudan's president, Omar Hassan al-Bashir. Al-Bashir has also been charged with masterminding attempts to wipe out African tribes in the war-torn region with a campaign of murder, rape and deportation. The chief prosecutor urged the panel of judges to issue a warrant for al-Bashir's arrest in July.

Sudanese government officials continue to deny the charges and reject the International Criminal Court's authority over Sudan.
