Israelis Unhappy with Direction of their Country

As the 60 year anniversary of Israel's founding approaches, many Israeli citizens express concerns over the direction of their country and in particular over the government spending on the celebration.

Politicians are quick to point out absorption of immigrants, the high-tech boom and Israel’s very survival against unfavorable odds as key achievements worthy of celebration, popular opinion is more concerned with improving education and alleviating poverty, especially among children. If anything, it seems that public push back on the celebration reflects a deep seated disillusionment and distrust with the country's leaders.
